The quick necklace-length guide
Necklace lengths are usually described by where they land on the torso: choker at the base of the neck, princess around the collarbone, matinee through the upper chest and opera lower on the body. The same labeled length can sit differently depending on your height, neck, bust and pendant size.
Match the neckline first
High necklines make space for longer chains. V-necks look considered with a pendant that follows the V or a shorter chain that leaves the neckline clear. Open necklines can carry almost anything — use your outfit's scale as the deciding factor.
Layering without tangles
- Separate layers by 2–3 inches.
- Mix one delicate chain with one stronger texture.
- Keep the shortest necklace clear of the fabric edge.
- Use one focal pendant and let the other chains support it.
